A Cowdenbeath Racewall racer has bought a new car after a successful season.

Ryan McGill, a Kirkcaldy-based driver, was pleased with his 2024 season and has already fixed up another car for the future.

He said: "I have ended up with another Formula II car.

"It’s the sister car of the RCE that I’ve been racing for the past two seasons.

"Buying another car wasn’t the plan, however, I heard Charlie Guichard’s car was for sale and knew it would be snapped up quick."

Mr McGill, who is a company director at McGill Motorsport and McGill Microwave, still finds time to race at the weekends.

He said: "We have taken over a couple of units beside the original McGill Motorsport unit.

"Fortunately, the businesses are steadily growing, so we needed a little more space.

"At McGill Motorsport, we are stocking up on the new range of 2025 racewear and may have to try to extend the showroom area soon, so that we can display more of the products we offer."

Mr McGill is hopeful of being on the grid for the Formula II World Final at the Cowdenbeath Racewall next season.

Reflecting on his 2024 season, Mr McGill said: "I gained good experience in the world qualifying rounds and beyond those, I feel I had a great season in the Formula IIs, considering it was only my second season in the formula.

"The season kicked-off strong and I was promoted to red grade in May.

"However, due to other commitments I only managed a weekend outing at Skegness from that grade."

Mr McGill's season ended on a high when he won the Champion of Champions race, which is open only to race winners at the Racewall.

He said: "When the race started, I had to be at my best to fend off Leckie's attempts to pass me.

"Once I broke free, I set about catching the leader, Paul Reid, who was quite far ahead of the rest of the pack.

"I managed to catch Paul and I knew it would be tough to get past as he is a fair but hard driver.

"I managed to get into the lead after a couple of attempts, once I was leading, I got my head down and concentrated on nailing my laps as I knew Chris Burgoyne and Gordon Moodie weren’t too far behind.

"In the end, those behind weren't closing the gap and when the chequered flag appeared I was over the moon to find I’d won the Champion of Champions."

Looking ahead to 2025, Mr McGill said: "Overall I was really pleased with my season’s racing but have my sights firmly set on 2025 now and I’d like to be in World Championship at the Racewall.

"To do that I need to keep both the cars in top condition.

"I get a lot of help and encouragement from my dad, Billy, and my main mechanic Liam Buchanan.

"I can't thank them enough for the hours they spend working on my cars.

"I also want to say a thank-you to Team Moodie, who continue to amaze me with their generous support to help keep me on-track.

"Next season is set to be very entertaining for the crowd and I’d encourage any locals to come along and catch the action at Cowdenbeath Racewall."
