A LOCHGELLY boxing starlet is set to head into a major championship on the back of winning a sixth successive bout.

Harris Folks, who celebrated his 16th birthday last month, is set to compete in an 'Eastern Regions' event hosted by Boxing Alliance Scotland at the end of this month.

The S5 Lochgelly High School pupil, who is the nephew of four-time Boxing Scotland Elite Championship winner, former British and Commonwealth number one, and Fife's first female professional boxer, Emma McCulloch, was victorious at a show hosted by his club, Glenrothes Boxing Club, on Sunday November 10.

Harris stepped into the ring against Jack McRae, from Antonine Boxing Club, in Clydebank, for a 60kg lightweight contest, and was given the victory by unanimous decision.

"It was a really good fight," his grandfather Allan McCulloch, who is also a coach with Glenrothes, said.

"He boxed really well and it continues his winning streak. The lad he was up against was no mug.

"I would've given it 4-1. I thought Harris was the clear winner of the first two rounds, but the third was quite close. He deserved the victory overall.

"That's the last six fights he's won, and a couple of those were away from home, which is the most pleasing thing. Going away from home, you have to win the rounds by a considerable margin, and what you're doing then is taking it out of the judges' hands.

"It's pleasing the way it's going. He's developing well."

Last year, in just his fifth bout since taking up the sport in 2021, Harris collected a silver medal at the Boxing Scotland Eastern District Schools and Junior Championships.

He will be aiming for more success at the upcoming event hosted Boxing Alliance Scotland, a new governing body set-up for amateur boxing, featuring clubs who have broken away from Boxing Scotland, whose first competition was held in September.
