THE weekend saw Lochgelly Raceway’s final Friday night event of the season take place and it promised to be an excellent event, writes our Raceway reporter, Kevin McQueen.

The weather did its best to put a damper on things with dense fog and drizzle throughout the evening providing difficult viewing and driving conditions.

The U-Pull-It 1300 Stock Cars raced in their annual ‘Mr Gunn’ event with a couple of visiting drivers welcomed. Reece Legrice and Jeff Larke made the trip from south of the border with Legrice in particular fairing well throughout the night with a hat-trick of 2nd place finishes for his efforts.

A stand out performer on the night was Ryan Muirhead though, with Muirhead having his best meeting of the year to date having found good pace in the car. The 648 car of Muirhead raced to excellent victories in each of the two heats, before bringing it home in third position in the meeting final.

It did provide some entertaining racing though with little between many of them. Jamie Stewart continued his good form, as he raced to victory in the ‘Mr Gunn’ event, coming through fast in the opening laps taking full advantage of the closed grid and finding himself in the top 5 in the first couple of laps.

The ProStocks rounded off their 2024 season with another excellent showing.

The nudge and spin class have certainly delivered throughout the season. Alexander Taylor had an outing in the Gavin Ritchie car and showed good pace though, his lack of experience showed at times as he found himself off track a few times on the night.

He’ll have left happy with his experience though, and it may find him wanting his own car come the 2025 season.

Dean McGill took the win in the opening race, before retiring from the evening in heat 2. Paul Barron took a heat and final double.

Gregor Whyte has been a steady driver throughout the year, keeping his nose clear of most issues, and picking up some good points along the way – Friday seen him come away with another good haul of points.

Lewis Gilchrist and Dougie Kidd seemed to have a bit of a spat with a few love taps between the pair throughout the evening! Paul Barron and Ryan Martin came to a friendly blow at the end of the meeting final as they brought down the curtain on their 2024 cars!

The ORCi Ministox have delivered an abundance of excellent racing throughout the year, though during the course of the season we have seen multiple drivers retire from the formula having reached the upper age limit.

Numbers have felt their away somewhat in the closing stages, however, the formula always provides good racing.

Stuart Shevill looks to be a driver to be reckoned with in the formula, and on Friday night, he was in amongst the action, trading blows and places in each of his three races.

A well-deserved runners-up spot in the final was an apt reward for his efforts. Oliver Heron was in excellent form, as he raced to a heat and final double, whilst Ollie Sime took victory in the opening race of the night. Kevin Graham looks to have found his mojo after a difficult few months, and took away a couple of podium places for his efforts.

We are back in action this Saturday night at Lochgelly Raceway for the penultimate time this season.

The Van Bangers Scottish Championship headlines the event, with the National Hot Rods, Stock Rods, 2.0 Hot Rods and Junior Productions all featuring. The action gets underway at 5pm.
