THE career of a loyal servant to Dundonald Bluebell FC was marked on Sunday during a star-studded game with Raith Rovers legends.
James Lennox, who played more than 350 games for the Moorside club before retiring at the end of last season, joined a team of former Bluebell stars for his testimonial.
He started his long associaition with the club when they were still in the junior ranks as the 'Bell worked their way up to the East Region Super League, before their committee made the decision to move into senior football within the East of Scotland League set-up.
Lennox played his part in ensuring they reached the Premier Division, and he recalled that one of the major highlights of his time playing with Dundonald was in a Scottish Cup, first round tie that was beamed live across the nation by BBC Scotland.
The Bluebell took on then SPFL League Two leaders, Queen's Park, in December 2020, in a game played at Kelty Hearts' New Central Park because of TV requirements, and Lennox played his part in taking the game to extra time, which his side went on to lose 3-1, with a series of good saves.
A host of former players with the Rovers who played in their League Cup final win over Celtic in 1994 took part, including current Dundonald boss, Jason Dair, and former Dunfermline Athletic and Scotland star, Stevie Crawford.
Other ex-Raith stars who took to the field included Joe Cardle, Scott Thomson, John McStay, Peter Heatherston, Dave McGurn and Colin Cameron, who is currently on the Kirkcaldy club's coaching staff, as did their chief executive, Andy Barrowman, and technical director, John Potter.
They took on a Bluebell legends side, led by Lennox himself, which included Craig Wedderburn, Calum Strang, Stuart Cargill, Barry Sibanda and Scott Durie, who ran out 5-3 winners in front of an excellent crowd.
