SCOTT MERCER didn't have to think twice over making a move to Kelty Hearts after being impressed with their style of play.

The former Dunfermline Athletic youngster left Bonnyrigg Rose for New Central Park earlier this month, and has started in all four of his new club's League One matches so far.

Based in Kinross, Mercer is now with the seventh club of his career, having also turned out for East Fife, over two spells, Queen of the South, Falkirk and Edinburgh City.

"As soon as I knew the gaffer was interested, I was really keen to make the switch," the 29-year-old told Press Sport.

"I've played against Kelty in the last couple of years when the gaffer's had the team. They like to play football, but they can mix it as well, and he's always got his team well-drilled.

"They're a good side and, with how open this league is this year, I just thought it would be brilliant to be part of it.

"You want to play at as high a level as you can. I've obviously played in this league for a number of years, and in the Championship, and League Two most recently, so you get a good view of all the teams.

"It's a very good standard in League One and it was a big attraction to come here.

"It's been great since I've came in. The boys have been brilliant. I think we've had four really good results. We're still keeping clean sheets and we're such a threat up front."

Mercer, playing at right back, has helped the 'Maroon Machine' to three successive shut-outs - in wins over Stenhousemuir and Arbroath, and Saturday's draw with Inverness Caledonian Thistle - as they top the table after opening the season with two wins and two draws.

"We're just aiming to keep doing what we're doing just now. We've had a fantastic start," he observed.

"That's another full-time team (Inverness) that we've come up against, and we've done really well. We got a great result last week, following on from another win, so it's been a great start. We just need to keep our feet on the ground, keep focusing on us, and not be looking too much around us.

"It probably showed a different side to what we can do, in terms of the great football we played last week, it was more of a battle today. I thought we stood up to it really well."
