COWDENBEATH Racewall stages the biggest prize in the Saloon calendar this weekend when it hosts the world final.

At this stage there are over 70 drivers booked in to compete and the result will decide who will race with the gold roof on his car over the next year.

The home fans will be hoping that the title stays in Scotland, the last homegrown title winner was Stuart Shevill Jnr back in 2013.

And maybe it's an omen that he will start the race from pole position!

However, he will have 37 other drivers behind him who have their own aspirations.

The fans will get a chance to meet the drivers when the popular grid walk takes place in the afternoon, giving them the chance to get a photograph or an autograph with their favourites.

Shevill Jnr has had quite a year, having won the Scottish championship and has just returned from racing in Venray in the Netherlands where he won the prestigious World Cup and then the meeting final the following day.

The grid will include Jermy van de Kratts and Killian Brokken, from Holland, Nick Antwerpen, from Germany, and at least four drivers from Northern Ireland.

The current world champion, Deane Mayes, and the European champion, Timmy Barnes, are on the grid, but the British champion Adam O’Dell will have to rely on the last chance qualifying heat if he is to make it.

Look out for the sons of previous world champions, Archie Brown and Alfie Aldous, hoping to make a name for themselves and lead the teenage challenge.

If it is anything like past Saloon World Championship races, there is going to be plenty of action and if it is one of the Scottish drivers who is first home the Cowdenbeath ‘Roar’ could well echo far and loud.

The Formula II drivers will be contesting their Scottish championship on Saturday evening, with the present title holder, world champion and World Cup holder, Gordon Moodie, hoping to defend his title.

He will face stern opposition from the European champion Chris Burgoyne and the Irish Open champion Jason McDonald.

On Sunday the Saloons race for the Raymond Gunn Tribute Trophy, the Formula IIs the Mac 100 trophy whilst the ORCi Ministox drivers their National Championship.

The meeting on Saturday starts at 5pm and it's 1pm on Sunday.
