Cowdenbeath 1 Cumbernauld Colts 1

BOTH teams struggled on a wild evening for football and a share of the spoils was about right.

The Blues had enough chances in the first-half to win the game, but several good openings were squandered.

However, in the second period it was Cumbernauld who dominated with the wind and rain behind them and Cowdenbeath had to defend well to keep them out.

Home boss Dougie Hill welcomed back some of his previously injured players and they had a great chance inside three minutes when Daryl Healy released Jake Sutherland on the edge of the Colts box.

He pulled the trigger but his low drive was blocked by Colts keeper Yan Gromov Godik. Sam Newman was next to test the goalie, after a good break his effort was saved by Godik at full stretch.

Cowden dominated possession and Sutherland brought out another good stop from the Cumbernauld stopped after bursting into the box to reach a pass from Robbie McNab.

Shay Burke’s shot from 25 yards produced a fine finger tip save from Godik but it wasn't all one-way traffic and at the other end, Ethan Kerr cleared a Callum Wilson flick off the Cowden line.

In 31 minutes the Fifers took the lead.

A raking crossfield pass by Burke found Newman clear on the left hand side of the Colts box and the midfielder fired home.

Godik was called in to action, preventing Sutherland from finding the net with a top class save, with Healy knocking the rebound wide with the goal gaping.

The hosts paid for that miss three minutes into time added on to the first half when Colts levelled through Aiden Malcolm’s header.

Colts started the second period well and John Binnie sent a curling shot just wide, then on the hour Malcolm sent a free-kick inches wide and Cowden’s Josh Blair pulled off a good save from Ashton Pellow’s effort.

The Blues were hanging on in the teeth of Cumbernauld attacks and a strong wind.

Late on an Aaron Dunsmore curler found the side netting but it swung the other way again with Blair forced into another top stop to prevent Pellow from winning all three points for the visitors.
