IT'S the end of an era at Kelty Hearts after one of the club's most familiar faces stepped down after nearly five decades of service.
Ian Thomson, who first became involved with the club in 1977, is retiring from his duties at New Central Park, and they have said "few names resonate as profoundly" as his during their history.
He joined their committee member two years after Kelty's formation as an amateur side, becoming chairman just 12 months later.
In 1980, they were granted membership of the Scottish Junior Football Association, becoming members of the Fife junior league, and went on to enjoy considerable success, including twice reaching the Scottish Junior Cup final.
Ian's time at the club, which has also seen him take on roles as commercial manager and hospitality manager, has included their evolution into senior, professional football, when they joined the East of Scotland League in 2018, before reaching the SPFL three years later.
Acting chairman George McTrusty, who, alongside sporting director, Craig Reynolds, presented Ian with a commemorative salver at Saturday's memorable win over Hibernian in the Premier Sports Cup, said: "Ian’s dedication to Kelty Hearts is unparalleled.
"His efforts have laid a solid foundation for our future success. We owe him a great debt of gratitude for his unwavering commitment and passion."
In a tribute to Ian on their website, the club added: "In our short but storied history here at Kelty Hearts, few names resonate as profoundly as Ian Thomson’s.
"After 47 years of dedicated service, Ian has announced his retirement from his duties at the club as he looks forward to enjoying more time in Spain and Australia, marking the end of an era that has seen Kelty Hearts evolve from an amateur outfit to a professional club.
"Ian Thomson’s journey here at Kelty Hearts began in 1977 when he joined as a committee member. It didn’t take long for his leadership qualities to shine through, and by 1978, he was appointed chairman.
"His tenure as chairman was just the beginning of a multifaceted career at Kelty Hearts. Over the decades, Ian has worn many hats, including commercial manager, chairman, committee member, and hospitality manager, each role contributing significantly to the club’s growth and success.
"At Saturday’s game against Hibernian FC, Ian was honoured for his outstanding contributions. Sporting Director Craig Reynolds and Acting Chairman George McTrusty presented Ian with a commemorative salver, symbolizing the high regard in which he is held by everyone at the club."
