VETERAN Kelty Hearts defender Jason Thomson has said he'll take time out over the summer to decide what his future holds.

The 36-year-old helped the New Central Park club claim their highest-ever finish since being promoted to the SPFL in 2021 as they placed sixth in League One.

Former Heart of Midlothian, Dunfermline Athletic, Raith Rovers and Arbroath player Thomson joined the 'Maroon Machine' in September 2022 and, last summer, agreed to extend his stay for another season.

That took him into his 20th year as a professional and, in a campaign that saw him reach the landmark of playing in 500 senior games, made 36 appearances in all competitions for Michael Tidser's side.

Thomson, who will turn 37 in July, was asked by Times Sport after playing in Kelty's recent draw at League One champions Falkirk if he'd be with the club again next season, and replied: "I'm not sure yet.

"I'm still to have that conversation probably with the gaffer, and we'll see. I'll be 37 in a few months, so we'll see how the body holds up.

"We'll sit down and have a wee break over the summer.

"It was good to get the 500 games. The first half of the season was good. I picked up a wee niggly injury, which hampered me a wee bit, but I've played over 30 games this year which has been great.

"We'll see what the future holds. I wouldn't make any hasty decisions right now."

Boss Tidser added: "He's been first class for me, really first class.

"He's funny, he's charismatic, he's a leader, trains well - he's just an all-round good guy, with a lovely family.

"If Jase does go, he'll be sorely missed. If he stays, we'll be delighted."
