NEW Cowdenbeath Bowling Club president, Mitch Drysdale, welcomed members and visitors from Crossgates, Dundee, South Queensferry and Lenzie on Saturday for the opening of Cowdenbeath Green, writes Jack High.

Some 38 players participated over fifteen ends with a few interested spectators looking on.

The weather stayed dry and Isabel Drysdale threw the first jack and a competitive 'President v Vice President' friendly match ensued.

Lindsay Black, the new Vice President, presented Isabel with a lovely bouquet of flowers.

Results were as follows with the President's skips named first, A Johnstone 14 J Deacon 14; M Drysdale 14 L Black 14; R Reekie 16 R Cant 14; L King 11 D Leitch 11; B Simpson 11 M Heenan 10. A total win by three shots for the president (who had first pick!!).

A good day was had by all and a lovely meal was served by the ladies and entertainment was laid on for those who stayed after the bowls. Some people stayed WELL after the bowls were finished.

Immediate past president M Heenan continued his beaten run from last season but the pressure will now be transferred on to current president, Mitch Drysdale's efforts from now on.

Sweep winners were selected as the highest up for each team after 10 ends. Brian Simpson's triple of J Arnott and A Leishman were presented with a bottle of wine each by Lindsay and Mitch presented T Johnson, D Reynolds and D Leitch with a bottle of wine as the best vice presidents triple. A vote of thanks on behalf of the visitors and guests was given by Rob McClernan from Lenzie.

Opening of the Green At Lochgelly Bowling Club

Saturday saw the opening of the green at Lochgelly Bowling Club.

A strong turnout of members ensured that fun was had by all that attended. The opening puts the President versus Vice President.

President Alan Bowers opened proceedings by addressing members before they headed out to the green.

The battle on the green was closely contested but the Vice President, Willie Glasgow, saw his side pull in front and never look back. The final score was President 28 shots Vice President 40 shots.

The skips scores were Alan Bowers 5 Willie Glasgow 14 ; Alan Scott 9 Mick Connelly 8 ; Alex Hodge 6 Eddie Hodge 10 ; Tam Muir 8 Alex Mitchell 8.

On returning to the Clubhouse, the players were served up great meal by Lady President Liz Scott and her team.

The Club would like to remind all Members that fees are now due and need to be paid by May 1st.

If anyone wishes to try bowls, then please come along on Sundays at noon and give it a go. Coaches are on hand to assist any new players.

The next event is a friendly match away to the Gallatown (Kirkcaldy) on Saturday April 9th.
