Kelty is set to celebrate its first all-day Christmas lights switch-on event.

The festivities will begin at 10am on Saturday, November 30, at the Kelty Community Centre.

The event will feature a Christmas market, a lunch with stovies and soup, home-baked goods, and refreshments.

There will also be a Santa's grotto filled with gifts for children.

A school children's choir, made up of pupils from village schools, will provide entertainment, along with plenty of Christmas music.

The Tartan Juggler will make an appearance, and there will be arts and crafts activities, including snowflake-making and storytelling.

Santa's sleigh is expected to return for him at 3.30pm, and the eagerly anticipated light switch-on is scheduled for 4.30pm.

Wayne Hayles, the community council convener for the event, said: "The Christmas lights along the Main Street is paid for by fundraising, so this is the start of something big by the Community Council taking the event very seriously, which can be built on year by year with collaborations from all local groups.

"I would also like to thank Hank John, of the Rotary Club of Cowdenbeath, for his help this year in organising this event."
