A Cowdenbeath man, who sent offensive messages to his former partner, has been given a jail warning.
Barry McGuire, 35, of Station Road, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for sentencing.
He previously admitted that on various occasions between February 24 and March 9 at Blair Street, Kelty and elsewhere he sent unwanted messages to his former partner, which were offensive, derogatory and abusive.
Depute fiscal Catherine Stevenson told the court that McGuire’s repeated abuse included calling his former partner a “wee slut” and a “whore”.
Defence solicitor Chris Sneddon said, “It was fairly long-standing relationship from 2021 to 2024 and break-ups can result in difficulties, such as in this case.
“His position is that it was not all one-sided.”
However, Sheriff Krista Johnston told McGuire she did not appreciate his “victim-blaming”.
She warned him his behaviour was “entirely unacceptable” and that if he continued to offend, he could find himself in jail.
McGuire was put on a community payback order with 125 hours of unpaid work and the sheriff also imposed a two-year non-harassment order.
