A TOUCHING tribute in front of over 60,000 people has been made to a Ballingry dad who died earlier this year.
Chris Gronkowski tragically died after suffering a heart attack in May at the age of 50.
His wife Lorraine and sons Lewis and Ethan, along with other family members, attended Scotland's rugby fixture with South Africa at the weekend where an image of much-loved Chris went up on a huge screen in front of 67,000 plus crowd at Murrayfield.
The dad-of-two had worked as an events safety officer at the stadium since 2020, and his son Lewis said they the tribute had been an emotional one for the family.
"Murrayfield have been terrific to us in the last few months," he said. "They got in touch with my mum to say they were inviting us to one of the games. We picked the Scotland versus South Africa game.
"They said they were going to get some photos from us and put his picture on the big screen before the match.
"He had worked there since January 2020 so had been there over four years. The game was fully sold out - Murrayfield seats about 67,000 people – we were very much so proud."
Although an emotional occasion, Lewis said the event was an enjoyable one for him and his family.
"It was good to go and experience it," he added. "We were invited to pre match hospitality and we taken into the suite and taken pitch side and met the players. It was really good.
"It was my first rugby game. It made me think about how much he loved his job. All his colleagues were really nice. A good few of them I recognised from his funeral."
