Construction has begun on a project to build 44 homes and flats.
The development at the site of Jenny Gray House, Melville Street, Lochgelly, was approved by Fife Council subject to conditions on February 10, 2023.
Developers have now confirmed work began on October 2 of this year.
The project aims to provide 20 affordable houses and 24 extra-care flats, intended for people aged 55 and older.
The approval came with a series of conditions to ensure safety, environmental protection, and community benefit.
A remedial action statement had to be submitted before site work begins to address potential contamination from previous uses. If unidentified contamination is found during construction, work must stop immediately, and a new action plan must be approved.
The development must remain as affordable housing in perpetuity. It is also restricted to individuals aged 55 and older to manage local education capacity.
A sustainable urban drainage systems scheme must be fully operational before the first dwelling is occupied and maintained.
A detailed landscaping plan, including tree and shrub planting has to be implemented, with seasonal restrictions to protect nesting birds.
The project must be completed within three years from the decision date, and the council must also be notified upon completion.
