Cowdenbeath High Street is currently closed due to an emergency situation.

Scottish Water confirmed that the situation was caused by a burst water pipe, which has now been repaired and passed for reinstatement.

The company estimates that the road will reopen tomorrow, if not later this evening.

Councillor Darren Watt said: "It’s good that Scottish water have been proactive to address any leaks or burst mains, but at the same time they’ve got to be mindful that it does cause a lot of disruption to the local community, especially with it being on a main road that connects towns and villages.

"They’ve got to mitigate any disruption if possible. Hopefully it doesn’t go on more than necessary, especially at this time of year when shops and businesses rely on additional trade leading up to Christmas."

Those travelling by bus could have their journey disrupted by the work. A statement made by Stagecoach East of Scotland said: "19 services will be temporarily diverted from Tuesday 5th November until 5pm on Wednesday 13th November.

"Services will divert via Moss Side Road and Stenhouse Street, to then resume normal service in both directions. Bus stops Park Avenue, The Fountain, High Street and Railway Station will not be served during this closure.

"Due to traffic diverting, there will be a knock on effect cause delays to the 31, 31A, 33 and 33A services. Please allow extra time for your journey."

Bay travel service 18 will also be unable to serve Cowdenbeath High Street and Stenhouse Street until further notice.
