TWO local teenagers feel their experiences at the Rotary Youth Leadership Award outward bound camp near Aviemore will help them develop their career prospects.

Beath High School pupil Louise Stanyon, and Kayla Wells, from Lochgelly High, were chosen by Cowdenbeath Rotary Club to represent the area at the 2024 camp at Nethybridge.

And on Thursday night they went along to the club to tell the members how they got on at the week-long camp.

Louise said: “When I heard about the opportunities offered during the week at RYLA I felt I wanted to try the experience and I wasn’t disappointed.

“There were a lot of things I simply never had the chance to try before, such as raft building, rock climbing and hillwalking.

“One of the challenges was to climb Cairngorm, and while it was not a good day weatherwise we gave it a good shot to get to the top, but eventually the conditions won and we had to admit defeat, but it was an amazing challenge.

“The week saw me have to push myself out of my comfort zone and I met so many new friends who I have continued to remain in touch with.”

Kayla said: "Right from the start of the application process at Lochgelly High, to get the opportunity to get to RYLA, I enjoyed the challenge.

“To be chosen to go to the camp was a real boost and when I got there I found it a fantastic experience and I was delighted to take on the challenges presented to us.

“To have the chance to go mountain biking, hillwalking and raft building was something I might well not have got the opportunity to do without having the RYLA chance.

“Getting to meet so many different people was also special and all in all it was an amazing experience.”

Both girls expressed their gratitude to the rotary club for the opportunity, saying it would aid their career paths.
