A Cowdenbeath man’s 21st birthday celebrations turned into a disaster when he was caught drink-driving.
As well as a driving ban, Declan Bishop was also left homeless after taking his step-dad’s car.
Declan Bishop, of King Street, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for sentencing.
He admitted that on September 11 at King Street, he drove a car having consumed excess alcohol.
His reading was 48 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the limit being 22 microgrammes.
He also drove without insurance.
Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said police were called to Bishop’s home at 8.50am over suspicions he had been drink-driving. He was given a breath test which he failed.
Defence solicitor Jaclyn Robertson said: “It was his step-father’s car. He’s not welcome back there at the moment and so he’s sofa-surfing. The day of the offence was his 21st birthday.”
Sheriff Allan Findlay said “Happy birthday” to Bishop after imposing a community payback order with 70 hours of unpaid work and a one-year driving ban.
