Building is now underway at the site of a brand-new play park in Lumphinnans, following the resolution of issues raised by residents.
The project was approved in 2023 and received £150,000 in funding from the Cowdenbeath area committee.
Work has included a long consultation with community members, local schools, and the community council.
Councillor Darren Watt said: “To have this play park upgraded into something that will be more accessible and more functional will be an absolute godsend for a lot of the parents, and of course the kids that live in and around Lumphinnans as well.
“It’s been a long time in the planning and it’s great that the kids have had their say and been able to choose the best options.”
However, the project ran into some last-minute difficulties. Mr Watt said: “It was only when the groundwork was being laid that residents realised the zip wire was going to be running vertically towards the households. That caused a great deal of worry and concern.”
“They quickly contacted council officers and the contractor to make last minute changes which were thankfully accepted, so we’re now going to get a resolution that’s beneficial for all.”
Optimistic about the direction of the village, Mr Watt said: “Lumphinnans has seen a lot of improvement recently, including the active travel corridor connecting Cowdenbeath and Lochgelly. There’s a really strong sense of community and this will be widely beneficial to the area.
“It's great to see the builders on site. We’ve got this Indian summer on the way, so hopefully they’ll get a few extra days in the sun and be able to finish up sooner.”
