TWO nurseries in central Fife have failed their last Food Hygiene Inspection.
Denend Nursery in Cardenden and Lumphinnans Nursery both failed to meet food hygiene requirements, according to food safety records.
While in England businesses are graded on a scale of one to five, in Scotland they are only given a pass or a fail grade, listed as 'Improvement Required' - and in this case, both facilities did not meet the Scottish requirements and subsequently failed their inspections.
Lumphinnans Nursery was last inspected on March 28, 2019, while Denend Nursery's last inspection took place less than two months later on May 20, 2019.
They are now required to make improvements to pass the next inspection under the Food Hygiene Information Scheme (FHIS).
Fife Council confirmed that both facilities failed for the same reason.
Clark Graham, Quality Improvement Officer, added: "The food hygiene inspections carried out recently highlighted that we needed to install more sinks to bring those facilities up to current standards. We have plans in place to make those improvements."
The local authority also confirmed that Denend Nursery has addressed the outstanding issues and that work is being scheduled to address the issues at Lumphinnans.
The Council did not comment when asked why work has not been completed at Lumphinnans Nursery, five years after it failed its hygiene inspection.
