FAN power and their fundraising potential can help Cowdenbeath FC mount a strong challenge to get back into the Scottish Professional Football League.

That's the aim of the Cowdenbeath Independent Supporters Society (CISS) who want to provide a consistent flow of cash to the Lowland League side.

The Blue Brazil were relegated from League Two in 2022 and there are big-spending clubs who are vying to get into the 'top' divisions.

Secretary of the CISS, Aaron Dougan, told Cowdenbeath Rotary Club that the organisation had managed, in under two years, to get into a position to have a seat on the board of the club.

“Losing our place in the Scottish League was a serious blow to the club and all the supporters, and getting back up to League Two will be no easy task with several of the Lowland League teams currently having sponsors who are pouring a lot of money into them," he said.

“The CISS currently has 62 members, who want to create a solid base to allow the board to build a team that can mount a strong promotion challenge, but we are realistic enough to know that this will take time.

“Already we have put £15,000 into the club, and that is our aim on an annual basis, and that has already given us the opportunity to have a seat on the board.

“We hope to increase our membership in the coming months and years which can boost our chances of increasing our fundraising potential."

The creation of the CISS is part of the trend that has been developing in Scottish senior football, where supporters groups have been become more involved in the running of clubs.

They now have 10 per cent of the club’s shares.

Aaron added: “Cowdenbeath used to be a strong community club, but that has perhaps lessened a bit in recent times, and it would be good to see its community connections increase once again.

“Everyone in the Cowdenbeath family wants to see the club back in the Scottish league and that has to be the ultimate goal.”
