There are road humps on the horizon for Cowdenbeath’s Foulford Road after the area committee approved the plans.

Despite two objections from local residents, councillors opted to approve the road hump order and introduce the new traffic calming measures onto the road.

The plans include three sets of speed cushions stretching east from the access road to Beath High School. A raised table is proposed closer to the junction with Foulford Place.

“Foulford Road has a 20 mph speed limit and has road humps on the west and east ends of the street,” a committee report explained.

“There is a long section of Foulford Road that does not have road humps from Foulford Place to the high school.”

The traffic calming measures were originally proposed as part of the area roads programmes for 2024/25.

Now, they have been through the formal consultation process and have come back for final approval.

It was recommended that councillors set aside the two objections - both from the same household - and approve.

There were concerns about road humps causing damage to vehicles and that the road humps would be outside their property.

However, according to transport officers, these concerns were unfounded.

“There is no evidence that road humps cause damage to vehicles,” transport officers said.

“National guidance stresses that vehicles travelling over road humps at appropriate speeds should not suffer damage.”

Additionally, councillors were assured that “great care has been taken into the exact location for these traffic calming features that avoids driveways, utility covers and the correct spacing between each feature”.

Councillors unanimously agreed to set aside the two objections and allow the road humps to be installed.
