ONE of the most popular stage shows in history is embarking on a three-day showing in Fife from today.

Les Misérables has been adapted for school performers and is being shown at the Lochgelly Centre.

Running for two hours, the school performance takes the classic tale and trims it down, with approval from the author, but also manages to maintain the charm of the original.

Held by Nardone’s Academy of Performing Arts, the show will run from Wednesday, September 4 to Saturday, September 7.

An ad placed by the OnFife website read: “The epic tale of broken dreams, passion and redemption is set against a notion in the throes of revolution.

“Now adapted for school performers, Les Misérables School Edition features one of the most memorable scores of all time and some of the most memorable characters to ever grace your stage.

“Epic, grand and uplifting, Les Misérables School Edition packs an emotional wallop that has thrilled audiences all over the world.

“The sung-through piece is ideal for a cast of exceptional singers and overflows with melodies that are already standards.

“This author-approved edition has been abridged to a running time of just over two hours, while carefully maintaining the integrity of one of the greatest musicals ever written.”

Set in 19th-century France, the plot follows Jean Valjean after his release from prison after years of unjust imprisonment.

He breaks parole in search of a new life, pursued endlessly by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe Valjean can change his ways.

Five shows have been planned for the Lochgelly Centre, starting tonight at 7.30pm.

Further shows will air on Thursday, September 5 to Saturday, September 7 at 7.30pm, with an additional time pencilled in for 2.30pm on Saturday.

Tickets will cost £16 for a regular admission, while concessions can pay £15 for the show.
