COWDENBEATH After School Club wants to get moving with plans to raise £5,000 for its own transport.

The non-profit charity, which has been providing childcare for 25 years, has launched a Go Fund Me page to buy its own nine-seater vehicle.

Ashleigh Hodge, the lead practitioner, said: "We provide affordable childcare for children of primary school age and can take up to 24 children at a time.

"The after school club is not only a childcare provider but also a safe space for our children to attend after school, a place for the children to socialise, develop and further work on skills and play to their hearts' content.

"We heavily rely on a minibus to collect from the schools but our most recent supplier is now unable to provide us with that service and due to lack of funding for after school clubs, we find ourselves struggling to find another affordable supplier.

"We are now looking at other ways to fundraise in order to be able to purchase our own nine-seater vehicle which would be hugely beneficial to our club."

The only after school club in Cowdenbeath, they pick up from four different schools in the area.

It runs Monday to Friday from 3pm to 6pm as well as opening from 9am to 6pm on in-service and strike days.

She added: "For the past couple of weeks, we have been using public transport, staff cars and walking the children but as we are fast approaching winter and with the weather quickly changing, this isn't something we can continue to do.

"However, we have recently secured an alternative form of transport from a minibus company, which we are very grateful for as they have accommodated our financial ability, this is still a big outgoing for us which is why it would be a great idea for the club to have their own vehicle.

"Not only would this provide transport for term time but also during our holiday programmes, two weeks in April, four to five weeks in summer and two weeks in October.

"We are open 8am to 6pm Monday to Thursday and until 5pm on Fridays.

"During term time and during the holiday programmes, we provide childcare for working parents, foster parents and children with ASN.

"Having our own transport would not only help with the club's outgoing costs but help with accessing our local communities with the children for trip activities.

"We appreciate any kind of help or donations whether it be pennies or a share of our fundraiser."
