LOCHGELLY United appealed for the public's help to ensure "player and spectator safety" ahead of their football season starting on Saturday.

The amateur football club, who play at Moore Park which is within the wider public park, said they continue to have a "big problem" with broken glass on the pitch.

Ahead of Saturday's match they posted: "Please help us ensure our player and spectator safety.

"As we prepare for our season starting tomorrow we continue to have a big problem with broken glass on the park.

"We are reaching out to any local people who use the public park to ask if you can include Moore Park on your walk route on Saturday morning and help clear any broken bottles from the Friday night.

"Problem areas are around the fencing perimeters and behind the storage containers."

Fife Council's safer communities team manager, Dawn Jamieson, said: "Anti-social behaviour of any kind is unacceptable and a blight on our communities. "The park is popular with families and broken glass poses a particular risk to children and pets. "We have patrols in the area and will work with the police to help combat this kind of behaviour."

Lochgelly United play in the Kingdom of Fife Amateur Football Association and lost 1-0 at home to Leven United on Saturday.
