A BALLINGRY bookmakers will close up shop at the end of this month after 56 years of service.

The shop, which is operated by Ladbrokes Coral, on Benarty Square is set to cease trading on Saturday, August 31.

The British gambling company confirmed the closure, saying: "The lease for the shop is ending, and we made a business decision not to continue trading the shop."

The Times told you back in 2018 that a celebration was being had for its 50th birthday which Ladbrokes, at the time, said was the first betting shop in the United Kingdom to reach the milestone.
