A drug driver, caught near Lochgelly, has been banned from the road for more than three years.

Brian Casey, 53, of Papermill Wynd, Edinburgh, was more than three times over the limit and has appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on 9th November on the A92 between Kirkcaldy and Lochgelly he drove a van while over the limit for cannabis.

His reading was 7.0 microgrammes of THC per litre of blood, the limit being 2.0 microgrammes.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said police had stopped the van to carry out checks and could smell cannabis from Casey.

The court was told that Casey had been taking cannabis to ease the pain of a back injury.

Sheriff Krista Johnston imposed a 40-month driving ban and a community payback order with 90 hours of unpaid work.
