A mother-and-daughter duo have opened up their new business in Lochgelly this morning (Tuesday).

Chivaune Harmon and Brenda Ritchie have been welcoming the public through the doors of their new café, Rise & Dine.

Chivaune told the Times she is “excited and nervous all in one go".

The pair have previously worked in catering together and Chivaune started her home-based baking business, A Slice So Nice, earlier in the year.

She added: “We had been looking for premises for about six months because I started doing home baking about the end of March, and I was just getting busy with all the baking and all the people asking for it, so I thought I needed a base.

“My mum said, 'Why don’t we just get a café?’

The new business is located on Lochgelly’s Bank Street and will serve a range of hot drinks, cakes, and hot food.

Both women are from Cardenden, with Brenda still residing there and Chivaune living just over in Kirkcaldy.

They looked at various locations in Fife including Kirkcaldy, Cowdenbeath, and Cardenden for a space, but decided to set-up shop in Lochgelly as they felt the town “was just lacking that wee bit” when it came to a café.

They will be serving both a breakfast and lunch menu, as well as hot drinks. The café also has a pie meal deal and will be running a loyalty card deal for a breakfast and tea or coffee.

Rise & Dine also received interest from the local community ahead of its launch.

Chivaune commented: “We were in doing renovations and there’s been people popping their head in constantly every day.”

The café will be open Monday to Friday from 7am to 2.30pm and will also open on Saturdays.

Doors opened up at 7am this morning for the first time.
