A FORMER bank in Cowdenbeath could be transformed into a residential flat.
The applicant, John Kippen, has submitted proposals to change the use of the former TSB bank on the High Street to form a flatted dwelling.
As previously reported in the Times, TSB announced back in September 2020 that they would close the bank in 2021.
The branch shut as part of a three-year strategy where around 300 jobs were affected.
Proposed floor plans in the application to Fife Council for the 92 High Street space include two bedrooms, a lounge, a kitchen, bathroom, and a dining space.
After attempts to let the property returned no interest, the tenant and applicant agreed to cancel the tenancy agreement, later attempting to sell the building.
In the planning statement prepared by Andrew Megginson Architecture, they stated: “The bank was closed on April 20, 2021 where the tenant (CBRE UK) put the premises on the market ‘to let’.

“Following no interest to let the property the tenant and the applicant mutually cancelled the tenancy agreement in February 2022.
“The applicant thereafter put the building on the market ‘for sale’ with a large marketing board erected to the outside of the premises.
“The building was up for sale from February 2022 to the present day where there have only been three viewings with no offers received to date.
“Overall, there has been little reasonable commercial interest in the property to date since it was put on the market by the former tenant and applicant for both ‘to let’ and ‘for sale’.”
The agent also added: “Following the applicant being unsuccessful in being able to sell the property the applicant is now looking to change the use of the building into a residential flat which he is looking to develop personally and then sell on to a family with the unviability of the unit remaining as commercial noted above in mind."

TSB is one of many banks to close in the town in the past few years, with the latest announced recently.
Bank of Scotland’s Cowdenbeath branch is to close next year, with the High Street facility shutting its doors to the public on June 24, 2025.
A banking hub, however, is planned for the area to allow customers to continue to carry out their banking.
