Fife Housing Group has partnered with Lumphinnans Primary School to raise some community spirit.

Last week pupils, along with colleagues from the group, hosted a Big Thank You event for members of the local community.

It was part of an initiative called Rising Community Voices, which sees social housing landlords partner with schools to empower young people to organise and deliver an event which will have a positive impact in their local area.

The purpose is to teach practical skills, encourage collaboration and provide an opportunity to bring people together while giving back to their communities.

Fife Housing Group’s engagement officers, Mellissa Birrell and Suzanne Hume, have been hosting monthly sessions with Lumphinnans pupils to plan the event.

The children began organising an afternoon tea and invited church elders, community council members, care home staff and residents. The event gave young people the chance to serve their guests food and chat with them.

Suzanne commented: “Our first event as part of the Rising Community Voices project was a huge success. The pupils from Lumphinnans Primary School really stepped up to the challenge.

“They were so enthusiastic and ready to get stuck in. It was a pleasure to work with such a great group of kids and we look forward to taking this project to other schools after summer.”
