SWIMMERS in Lochgelly will need to hold off a little longer before they can don their armbands again.

The community-use pool, which is located in the high school on Station Road, has been closed since last month due to air quality and humidity issues.

Asked this week, Fife Council said there are still problems and that it's not ready to reopen.

It comes at a time when the pool at Cowdenbeath, which shut in April, won't re-open until late next year.

The service manager for the council, Yvonne Gillespie, confirmed that the wetside area is closed due to poolside humidity conditions.

She said: "We have appointed a contractor to investigate and are in the process of installing sensors to allow better management in terms of air changes.

"Once installation is complete, this should have minimal impact on users.

"If this does not address the issue, we will consider other options and any more intrusive works would be included within a future planned maintenance programme to avoid any further unplanned disruptions."

Unfortunately, the local authority have since confirmed that the additional sensors indicated the need for more work to take place before the pool can reopen.

Currently, Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre is also closed as it undergoes 14 months of refurbishments and an £8 million project which will see improvements made to the dry-side facilities, extend the gym space and create studio and library spaces.

The outdoor astroturf pitches will also be replaced with one larger synthetic pitch, and there will be more accessibility throughout the building.

As part of the project, the town’s library will move from the High Street into the centre.
