A 60-YEAR-OLD man gouged at his partner’s eyes after attacking her in the street after a drinking session.

The culprit was James Duncan, of Parley Road, Kelty, who knocked his partner to the ground, striking her head.

He later claimed his drink had been spiked in a pub.

Duncan appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court, having admitted committing the offence on April 7 at High Street, Aberdour.

He assaulted his partner by seizing her, pushing her to the ground, striking her head off the ground, put pressure on her eyes and covered her face with his hands, all to her injury.

Depute fiscal Lauren Pennycook said the incident took place around 2.30am when the couple were walking back to their hotel after being at a local pub.

An argument started and Duncan grabbed the woman, throwing her to the ground which resulted in her head striking the ground.

He then began pushing his fingers into her eye sockets and she was shouting for help, added the depute.

Duncan tried to cover her mouth as she shouted and local residents heard the commotion, contacting the police.

Officers found the victim with injuries to her nose, a cut lip, a bump to the back of her head and bruising to her temple.

Duncan was arrested and when charged he said: “I did nothing”.

Defence solicitor Shona Westwood said: “He doesn’t have any recollection of the incident. He believes his drink was spiked that evening.”

She said he has now stopped drinking and the relationship was on-going.

Sheriff Wylie Robertson imposed a community payback order with 120 hours of unpaid work.
