Workers at a chemical plant in Mossmorran raised £2,000 after pedalling more than 1,000 miles on a virtual cycle challenge for a local charity.

More than 40 of ExxonMobil's Fife Ethylene Plant (FEP) employees cycled 1,428 miles for Meedies Bike Club as part of a 'Chain Reaction' challenge.

Organised by the plant's mental health and wellbeing group, the challenge simulated a journey from the Fife plant to the Circuit de Monaco, home of the Monaco Grand Prix.

The participants 'stopped' at several ExxonMobil sites on the way, including Fawley in Hampshire.

Participants not only competed for a top mileage £150 Decathlon voucher but also racked up entries for each mile into a lottery for another £50 Decathlon voucher and a Hi 5 recovery products cycle pack.

The event's winner, Fabian Gonzalez, business analyst at FEP, covered an outstanding 379 miles, followed by Raymond Elliot, operations support supervisor, who contributed 289 miles to the challenge.

Mr Gonzalez said: "We at ExxonMobil Fife are immensely proud to have participated in such a significant cause, which reinforces our broader commitment to community health.

"Personally, coming top of the leaderboard was the icing on the cake, although it was truly a team effort which we all worked hard for.

“The team is also delighted to announce that the bikes used in the challenge will be transferred to our on-site gym, making them accessible for all employees to further their physical health.”
