An MSP has called on Fife Council to extend support to residents impacted by flooding in recent years.
Jenny Gilruth, MSP for Glenrothes, made the call after her constituents in Kinglassie were impacted by flooding four years ago.
The council launched their Property Flood Resilience Grant Scheme last month. It provides grants of up to £5,000 to private property owners who meet certain criteria and evidence any damage.
However, the grant is not retrospective to those who have already been impacted by flooding, or who have existing measures installed.

Ms Gilruth said: “While I welcome the news of Fife Council’s grant scheme to minimise the risk of damage by flooding, it is deeply disappointing to see the lack of financial support for communities across the constituency that have endured such devastation from flooding over the years.
“Many of my constituents in Kinglassie were severely impacted by flooding in 2020, with their homes and belongings damaged or destroyed, and were offered little financial support from Fife Council at the time.
“I will be writing to the council leader, David Ross, to urge the council to reconsider their eligibility criteria and extend their support plan to include those previously impacted by flooding.”
“In the meantime, I would strongly encourage my constituents to check whether they are eligible for this vital funding to improve flood resilience and safeguard their homes at present.”
