AFTER the success of last year, villagers in Cardenden were keen to see the return of the miniature Highland Games.

And they weren't left disappointed as the much-anticipated event took place on Sunday in the garden behind Auchterderran Church on Balgreggie Road.

Don Campbell, who organised the games, told the Times: "We had a wee track and a dance platform and I got toy cabers for the bairns and haggis wrapped up in tin foil for the shotputs so they had a ball.

"The women from the church put meals and hotdogs on so it was really a mini-highland games."

A new chieftain was announced at the games too and the 2024 Bowhill Highland Games chieftain, Michael Philip, was appointed.

Don continued: "We had the handover of our chieftain from one year to the next, we had our highland dancers and the pipe band.

"It was lovely, it was great. It got warmer and warmer. We had the big tents and we had juice and crisps.

"We got a bunch of medals and every kid, first, second or last, got a medal. We were at Bowhill on Monday afternoon and they still had their medals on!”
