ORGANISERS were “blown away” by a “fantastic response” to the first-ever poster competition for Cowdenbeath Children’s Gala.
The committee at Cowdenbeath Civic Week, who are behind the upcoming gala day on June 9, received a “staggering” 211 entries.
A “massive thank you” went to young people and budding artists from Hill of Beath, St Brides, Foulford and Cowdenbeath primaries for their support.
Judging was not an easy job and reinforcements were called in from Cowdenbeath Community Council to pick the winning pieces.
In a social media announcement, organisers revealed that Rosa Mathieson-Smith, from Foulford PS, won the competition for the official poster.
Freya from P3 at Cowdenbeath PS, Caylee Nelson from St Brides PS and Niamh Miller of Hill of Beath PS were named as the runners up.
All the 211 posters received will be laminated and put on display at the green square on the High Street during civic week.
The gala will go ahead on Sunday, June 9, and wristbands are available from The Original Factory Shop, Luci-sue Coffee Bar & Gift Boutique, Balloons at Hallmark Ltd, Raja Bros, Co-op at Dalbeath Crescent and Beath Bargain Store.
Volunteers are also being sought for the day to help set up the park, sell wristbands, to be stewards at the parade and to help with litter picking.
Those interested in volunteering can find out more at Cowdenbeath Civic Week's Facebook page.
