THE Scottish Print Championship is coming to Bowhill’s Wallsgreen Park this September.
Bowhill Highland Games Committee were delighted to receive the news that they had been awarded the Scottish 80 metres Sprint Championship, which will take place at this year’s Games on Sunday, September 15.
Games Committee chair Don Campbell said: “We were alerted, along with the rest of the Highland Games organisations in Scotland, that the event was up for grabs with bids to be in place by last weekend.
“I contacted our committee and received 100 per cent backing to apply. So, I put a structured and attractive bid in for the championship, and we were delighted when Bowhill was given unanimous backing, despite other bids from various long-established Highland Games.
“It is a huge honour, and a feather in our cap, to be picked to hold this event."
Considering this is just the fourth year that the re-established Bowhill Games will take place, it is an amazing success for the committee.
Don, who is also the Scottish Highland Games Circuit’s handicapper, added: “The attractive prize money for the finalists, plus our magnificent running surface at Wallsgreen, and the rest of our excellent running programme, is guaranteed to bring the fastest sprinters in Scotland and North of England to Bowhill for the Games this year.
“Add to that, we can also announce that we have a full ladies Heavy Weight Competition this year. This means we will have to start the games earlier in the day on September 15.
“Finally, another first for Bowhill Highland Games, is that we are putting on a Mini/Junior Highland Games on Sunday, May 11, starting at 1pm, at the Auchterderran Church Grounds, with races, caber, shot putt, Highland Dancing and pipe bands, all for the kids - along with events for mums and dads thrown in!
“Bowhill Highland Games goes from strength to strength, so we ask and look forward to seeing good crowds at both our Highland Games this summer.”
