A primary school’s literacy shed has been destroyed in a fire that took place last week.
Lumphinnans Primary School had a literacy shed in the nursery garden that had bookcases and writing tables inside it. However, last week on Tuesday, February 13, there was a fire during the night and the shed has now been destroyed.
The damage was discovered last Wednesday, and was still smouldering.
Ailsa Swankie, headteacher at Lumphinnans Primary School, said: “There were tears on Wednesday afternoon when we went out and discovered this.
“We’ll pick ourselves back up again and build it all back, but it’s very disappointing.”

At the moment, that part of the garden has been cornered off so that the rest of the garden is safe for the children.
Ailsa currently isn’t sure of what the cost could be for repairs but she said: “I think it could be quite considerable.”
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 2.07pm on Wednesday, February 14, to reports of a shed on fire at Main Street, Lumphinnans.
“Operations Control mobilised one appliance to the scene where the crew extinguished the fire.
“Firefighters left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
