THE Blue Brazil Boys Club in Cowdenbeath has been left with "no choice" but to spend money on CCTV cameras after being plagued by vandals.

Inside the space of a few weeks a large lawnmower and one of their playing fields was damaged by "mindless" idiots, while anti-social behaviour has seen repeated dog fouling on the pitches.

The lawnmower had the inner cab trashed and windows smashed in.

The club shared the news on their Facebook page - along with a plea for information on those responsible.

Just four days later they took to their timeline again to highlight further damage to one of their pitches.

They said: "Another piece of vandalism, this time to the 9s pitch. The bikers and quad goers think it’s ok to do doughnuts in the middle of the pitch.

"Ruined the pitch which was due to be played on tonight and Saturday now costing the club to get Astros for these games.

"There's also dog mess on the 11s pitch. We have kids playing matches here. It takes two seconds to pick it up and bin it.

"This has left us no choice but to install CCTV. We’re spending money and time to make this one of the best facilities for kids to play football.

"We can’t continue to fund these things to be repaired all the time. This is the second time this week that all of our hard work has been shown a real lack of respect.

"The amount of hours spent by volunteers down at Venters Park to try to give kids and the local community a place to be proud of is being tarnished by a few mindless people.

"There is a massive woodland area right next to Venters Park, so there seems no reason to be walking dogs or using motorbikes/quads on a pitch that’s in the process of having a fence erected.

"CCTV has now been ordered and will be set up ASAP. Anyone caught will be named and shamed along with your dog dirt returned.

"Please stay off the pitches or at the very least, pick up your dog dirt."

Local councillor Darren Watt told the Times: "The large lawnmower, its windows were smashed in which no doubt will cost hundreds to repair, and they've also had quad bikes on their playing fields which have left tread marks on their pitches."

Much more than just superficial damage, he believes that the senseless actions will have a deeper impact on the morale of the volunteers.

While he doesn't believe this to be a personal attack on the club, he does feel as though they were victims of opportunity.

He continued: "They're more so being targeted in a sense that this is an easily accessible area.

"It demoralises them, they work so hard for not only the kids but for their community and their love of the game.

"I hope that something can be done to deter something like this from happening again."
