AN angry Cowdenbeath councillor has hit out at delays in repairing a road he described as "borderline dangerous".
Darren Watt first raised concerns in June about the "unacceptable" condition of the A909 just outside the town, on the bridge crossing over the A92.
While Fife Council are responsible for the road surface, it's trunk roads contractor Amey that's in charge of the bridge and repairs are needed on both, with neither seeming to want to take the first step.
Cllr Watt said: "That seems to be the problem but while they're humming and hawing about what to do it's local residents and commuters who are suffering as the road is in such a serious state of disrepair it's borderline dangerous.
"It's now the best part of three months later and we're no further forward.
"It's a 40mph stretch and if you're not familiar with the condition of the road and drive anywhere near that speed you will do substantial damage to your car.
"It's a complete mess.
"My photo doesn't do it justice but the road surface is almost like the rumble strips the council use for traffic calming, except they're deeper and more chaotic, as well as large dents and potholes.
He added: "It is extremely disappointing that I have not yet received any update, let alone not seen any repair or maintenance work carried out.
"We as drivers are obligated to ensure our vehicles are road worthy and the least we expect is for our roads to be vehicle worthy."
Kane Smith, roads maintenance lead consultant at the council, said: "There has been some concern with the condition of the joints on the bridge deck, and we can’t resurface until that's fixed.
"Amey are investigating funding for the maintenance work on the joints and we are awaiting further information before we can proceed.
"We hope to carry out resurfacing works here soon, but unfortunately can’t give a date at the moment."
And an Amey spokesperson said: “Our inspection of the bridge over the A92 at Cowdenbeath highlighted the current condition of the road and the expansion joint over the structure which, although not at the end of its life, could benefit from being replaced.
“Although there is the option to resurface the carriageway first as a priority, these works would typically be carried out in tandem.
"We are currently liaising with Fife Council, who have responsibility for the resurfacing of the bridge, as to the next steps forward.”
Cllr Watt said he was prepared to escalate the matter to get a resolution.
He stated: "It's a serious issue and the lack of movement on this is just not good enough. Fife Council need to get a hold of the matter and get it addressed.
"I understand if engineers are involved it's not going to be resolved overnight but an assurance that it's at least being investigated would go some way to appeasing people.
"Goodness knows what state the road will be in by the time they finally get round to doing the work."
