THE closure of a local community venue "would be a sin" as volunteers are urgently sought.
The Mitchell Hall Committee in Kinglassie are desperately seeking new faces to help run the community facility on Main Street.
The committee was formed in 1994 and were handed a 25-year lease from Fife Council to take over the-then derelict building.
With the help of grants from the likes of the Heritage Lottery Fund and The Gannochy Trust, the hall was fully restored, reopening in 1997.
It has been run as a community hall ever since and in 2019 the lease was renewed for a further 25 years.
Gordon Mitchell, treasurer, said: "We've survived Covid, energy cost hikes and still managed to keep our hire price at £10 per hour something we're pretty proud of and the hall is in a financially stable position.
"However, the fact is that with a couple of exceptions the people on the committee now were there in 1994. We're all getting too old.
"We need younger people with more energy and fresh ideas to get on board.
"Kinglassie doesn't have many amenities and the hall is a valuable asset.
"It would be a sin really if it had to close just because there was nobody to run it.
"Half a dozen people willing to give an hour a fortnight is all we need."
If you want to help or find out more the hall, the committee's AGM takes place at 6pm this Wednesday, June 7, and all are welcome to attend.
