TRAINS services running from Edinburgh to Fife are "returning to normal" after routes were disrupted by a broken down Sleeper train this morning.
Services were diverted via Cowdenbeath after a fault developed on the Sleeper service to Aberdeen just north of Kirkcaldy.
The issue mean ScotRail was unable to run trains from Edinburgh via Kirkcaldy however trains were still in operation from Fife towards Edinburgh.
A post from the train operators on Twitter stated: "The Sleeper service to Aberdeen has developed a fault just north of Kirkcaldy meaning we are currently unable to run trains from Edinburgh via Kirkcaldy.
"Where possible, these will be diverted via Cowdenbeath. We are still able to run trains from Fife towards Edinburgh."
The train was then recovered and services are now running however some disruption may still occur.
A later tweet added: "The assisting unit and the broken down train are now on the move. Services are now returning to normal however some delays and alterations may continue whilst we get our crew and units back into position."
