Hugh Black & Sons has picked up two Gold Awards for its ribeye steaks and steak pies.
More than 200 products were put forward by butchers from up and down the UK for evaluation in this year’s Smithfield Awards, organised by the prestigious Q Guild of Butchers.
The Smithfield Awards recognise and reward the best meat products from butchers across the UK, showcasing their craftsmanship, innovation and skill.
Hugh Black & Sons products were judged at an extensive judging session at the City of Glasgow College last month, headed up by Keith Fisher, CEO of the Institute of Meat, alongside a selection of respected industry professionals, journalists and foodies. Products were evaluated using a points system, with the best products awarded Bronze, Silver or Gold.
Gordon Wallace, Q Guild Manager said: “The Smithfield Awards are designed to help showcase the very best craft butchery while also helping to raise standards and drive product development.
"More than 200 products were submitted by Q Guild butchers from the length and breadth of the UK this year, in what remains the meat trade’s most prestigious and challenging product evaluation.
"To be awarded two Gold awards is a real achievement."
Hugh Black, from Hugh Black & Sons, said: “We’re delighted to have been awarded two Gold awards by the Q Guild of Butchers.
"They really are a seal of approval from the industry and are testament to the craftsmanship and creativity of our team.”
