LOCHGELLY West will carry the Central Fife challenge at the Rotary District 1010 Fife Area final today.
The West team won the Cowdenbeath Rotary Club Primary School Quiz, run at Lochgelly Centre, last month, with an impressive performance.
The team of Ryan Black, Matthew Davie, Caleb Davidson and Kevin Sweeney, fought off the 11 other local primary schools to qualify for the Fife final.
It will take place at Levenmouth Academy today.
Quizmaster, Neil Westgarth, had put together 48 tough questions, asked in eight rounds of six, which could yield 56 points, and the West ‘boffins’ were able to total 48.
Crossgates PS and St Patrick’s RC PS both scored 44 points, and kept the pressure on throughout the competition.
Neil said: "The West team were the pick of the bunch, but all 12 teams did with really well with only 15 points covering all the competing schools.”
Eve Allan, teacher at Lochgelly West, was delighted with the performance of her young charges, and commented: “Ryan, Matthew, Caleb and Kevin did really well to hold off strong challenges from the other schools.
“It was a really good experience for them and now they can look forward to the Fife final.”
The winning school at the area final will go forward to the Rotary District 1010 final in Aberdeen in the summer term.
