THERE'S a drive to find out the history of the old Ballingry Golf Club which was formed more than 100 years ago.
And last week Benarty Heritage Preservation Group accepted a £200 cheque from Lochore Meadows Golf Club to help them on their quest.
Group member Brian Menzies told the Times: "We're going to write a history of the old Ballingry Golf Club which we think was formed around 1904.
"It was actually in Lochore, opposite Rosewell Drive, but took the name because it was in the parish of Ballingry.
"It was called The Loan and was land granted to the golfers by Lord James Wilson, the coal owner, who had bought the estate.
"He also gave the land for Lochore Welfare FC."
Brian said the kind donation from the Lochore golfers will help them find out more about the old course.
He added: "There's nothing there at all now. I started to wonder as the deeds for the Lochore Welfare ground say it was for all time coming but if they ever folded and the ground was to be sold it would go back to charities within Benarty.
"I wonder if there was something similar in place for the golf club? There will be a deed written out somewhere so maybe we'll find it and get a look at it too."
