Cowdenbeath and Lochgelly residents have been told to brace themselves for disruption amid a Met Office weather forecast for the area and other parts of Scotland. 

The national weather service has warned of heavy rain today (Thursday, November 17) to tomorrow (Friday, November 18).

The rain is likely to cause flooding of homes and businesses and is expected to impact bus and train services across the Central Fife area as well as car journey times.

The yellow weather warning is set to last from 3pm today to 6pm tomorrow.

The cloudy and rainy weather is expected to last throughout much of the week with some sunny spells.

What to expect from the Met Office weather forecast?   

Thursday (November 17)

  • There is as much as a 95% + chance of rain at around 3 pm through to the next day.  
  • Heavy rain throughout the day with humidity reaching 94%.
  • Northeasterly winds could reach speeds as high as 28 mph.
  • Temperatures are to feel no higher than 4C.

Friday (November 18)

  • The chance of rain could be 95%+ until 6 pm.
  • The humidity could be as high as 95% throughout the day.
  • Northeasterly winds could reach as high as 26 mph from 3 am onwards.
  • Temperatures should be no higher than 9C.

The weekend (November 19 and 20)

  • Saturday and Sunday will be much calmer with wind speeds of 19 and 17 mph.
  • Humidity could be as high as 90% on Sunday while temperatures could reach highs of 17C.
  • Saturday will see a 10% chance of rain from 3 am and see temperatures reach no higher than 8C.

The BBC has predicted a similarly wet and windy week, with flooding and travel disruption expected tonight and tomorrow.

The rest of the week will experience cloudy and rainy conditions with small spells of sun.
