THE number of people out of work in Fife has gone down by 30 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Across the Kingdom, there were 7,850 claiming unemployment-related benefits in September.

Dunfermline-based DWP Employer Manager and job centre spokesperson, Phil Martin, welcomed the reduction and said jobs were still available for those looking.

"We are looking at 3,370 fewer people claiming benefits – with 670 young people which is a real bonus – so it is a big change," he said. "There continues to be a number of vacancies in a variety of fields.

"There are roles in pretty much everything you could be interested in – there is something available for everyone.

"There are also seasonal posts as well. With the festive season fast approaching the hospitality industry is working with Jobcentre Plus to fill thousands of jobs. Importantly our dedicated online hospitality section means there is 24-hour information for jobseekers.

"Jobcentre work coaches are focussed on helping employers get the people they and the economy needs. Jobcentres in Fife are inviting hospitality employers to take part in Jobs Fairs, hosting hospitality specific recruitment events and arranging for sector-based academies to be delivered."
