COWDENBEATH boss Maurice Ross felt 'sick' at the full-time whistle on Saturday as his side were denied a potentially priceless victory.

Ross has now pledged that his team will bid to win every one of their closing six league games following the late sickener to Stenhousemuir at the weekend.

The result - coupled with Albion Rovers winning late last night (Tuesday) - sees the Blues now ten points adrift of second bottom Elgin City, but his men will battle for every one of the 18 points still available to them.

He said: “We totally dominated the game and forced their goalkeeper into making several important saves, eventually took the lead, and almost had another, only for them to get a real break with virtually the last kick of the game.

“It was totally gut-wrenching for me, and the players were devastated at the final whistle. They put so much into the match but just could not get the result they deserved."

He continued: “I think the fans, in Saturday’s good crowd, would see how much this team we have is improving and totally dominate a team which has hopes of making the promotion play-offs.

“We really need to get the second goal in these situations to take us out of sight in these sort of games.

“We go to Forfar at the weekend and our aim is to win at Station Park.”

The manager was pleased with the way new strikers Sam Ompreon and Chris Aikamhenze played when they came on against Stenny.

Aikamhenze, who had previously been with Cruden Bay FC, is a strong, fast forward and will further add to the club’s attacking options in the remaining league matches this season.

The 19-year-old came through the ranks of the Aberdeen youth academy and Ross is pleased to welcome him to Central Park.

“Sam and Chris posed a lot of problems for Stenhousemuir and hopefully they will do the same in our remaining games,” he said.

“They are fast and physically strong and I am sure will not only score goals but also create openings for teammates."

The pair will have the chance of starting at Station Park on Saturday, but out of action will be defenders Craig Thomson and Sam Denham, who are suffering from knocks suffered previously at Stranraer.
