TWO Central Fife boxers have packed a punch to claim medal success at Boxing Scotland's Novice Championships.

Aiden Wilson, of Cardenden, and Cameron Cusick, from Ballingry, won gold and silver gongs respectively at the competition, which attracted an entry of just under 800 competitors across a variety of eight and age categories.

Held at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell, over two successive weekends last month, the event returned for the first time in almost two-and-a-half years due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Aiden, 17, collected gold in the junior male 2005 67kg category, after defeating Harris Chohan from the Skyaxe club in Dundee in the final, whilst Cameron, also 17, took silver in the junior male 2005 71kg category, losing out to Glasgow City Boxing Club's Zhuo Liu.

James White, a coach at Valleyfield Miners Boxing Club, where Aiden is a member, commented: "Aiden did well to win; it was a good performance. He's won the Eastern District and the Scottish Novices in six fights, and it was a really strong boy from Dundee that he was in with.

"To win and get down to the weight, he did really well."

Cameron boxes with Dunfermline Boxing Club, who had another member, Andrew Livingstone, compete at the event, and their head coach, Fraser Gorn, noted: "Cameron had three gruelling contests of two weekends and walked away with two wins and a silver medal.

"The takeaways from the tournament are hugely positive and we look forward to what the future holds for both of these boxers."
