A DELIVERY driver was “surprised” to find out he had been hitting speeds of up to 109 mph on the A92 near Lochgelly.
Petru Bologa, 39, of Willowbrae Road, Edinburgh, appeared from custody at Dunfermline Sheriff Court and was accompanied in the dock by a Romanian translator.
He admitted that on March 24 last year, on the A92, he drove at 109mph in a 70-mph limit.
The court was told that the offence took place on the dual carriageway between Lochgelly and Kirkcaldy when Bologa was heading west.
Police saw him travelling at an excessive speed at 8.37pm and stopped him.
Defence solicitor Elaine Buist said her client “didn’t realise he was travelling at such a speed and was surprised when the police officer told him”.
Sheriff Tim Niven-Smith fined Bologa £210 and endorsed his licence with three penalty points.
