KELTY Hearts will meet Scottish Cup holders St Johnstone in the Fourth Round of the competition after beating Montrose on penalties.
After a 0-0 stalemate in the initial Third Round tie between the sides, the replay at Links Park today (Saturday) had the same outcome with a 1-1 draw - Kelty went ahead through Joe Cardle but Craig Johnston levelled matters - sending the match to penalties.
Darren Jamieson made the perfect start in the shoot-out for Kelty after saving from Andrew Steeves, with Kallum Higginbotham following up and making it 1-0.
Mark Whatley was then denied by Jamieson, and Joe Cardle doubled the advantage for the visitors.
Craig Johnston replied ro make it 2-1, and Jamie Barjonas stepped up to keep Kelty in control.
The pressure was on Liam Callaghan to keep the shoot-out going, but his miss proved costly as Kelty booked their place in the Fourth Round.
Kevin Thomson's winners will now meet St Johnstone, at New Central Park, on the weekend of January 22/23.
More to follow.
